Municipal elections are scheduled for April 8, 2025. Eligible voters of the City of Prairie Home will have the opportunity to elect a mayor and two aldermen. Officers serve two-year terms.
Input Needed for Small Town Showcase

The City is being featured by the Missouri Humanities! Over several months in 2025, they will be making a short film, recording a podcast, and writing a feature article. This is a community project! The City Clerk is serving as volunteer coordinator - but needs things to coordinate! If you or someone you know wants to be part of showcasing PH's current events and its future, contact City Hall. Ameren Franchise Agreement Possible Petition

At the November 21, 2024 meeting, the Board of Aldermen approved and passed Ordinance 160A, renewing the existing franchise with Ameren Missouri to supply gas and electric services. This franchise shall be subject to approval or disapproval of the voters whenever twenty-five percent of the voters, as appears from the number of voters who voted for mayor at the last preceding municipal election, file with the city clerk, within thirty days after the passing of the franchise or contract, a petition in accordance with Section 88.251 RSMo.
Ameren Franchise Agreement

The City of Prairie Home has contracted with Union Electric Company d/b/a Ameren Missouri for the purpose of supplying gas and electricity. That 20-year contract will expire in 2025. The City wishes to renew the contract for an additional 20-year period.
Sidewalk Expansion Project Plans

The City of Prairie Home has been awarded grant moneys from the Missouri Department of Transportation for a sidewalk project to improve pedestrian safety.
New Police Chief

The Board of Aldermen has hired Jacob Lauer as its new part-time Chief of Police. Jacob will take his oath of office on 9/19/24. Jacob also works for the Cooper County Sheriff's Office and will be in Prairie Home up to 60 hours per month.
Property Tax Hearing

There will be a public hearing on August 15, 2024 at 6:00 pm at City Hall. The public is invited to present oral or written comments on the proposed tax levy for 2024. More information can be found under Notifications>Agendas.
Drinking Water Service Line Surveys

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources, by federal regulation, is requiring all water service providers to conduct an inventory of drinking water service lines. The City’s “service line” is the pipe that brings drinking water from the City’s main line to the water meter in your yard. Your “service line” is the line that brings drinking water from the water meter into your home.
Job Vacancy - Chief of Police

City Dog Tags

If you do not have a dog tag from the City dated 2024, please contact City Hall. Proof of rabies vaccination is required. THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR THE DOG TAG!
Fireworks in City Limits

From Resolution 2024-02: In recognition of our country’s Independence Day celebrations, fireworks may be possessed and discharged on private property from Wednesday, July 3, 2024 to Saturday, July 6, 2024, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., provided that in no event shall a person discharge fireworks in a manner that endangers the health or safety of any other person, nor in such a manner that any portion of the fireworks so discharged shall enter upon the private property of another or upon the streets or public property of the City.
Street Repair Work
5/31/2024
The last portion of the Drainage and Repair project that began last year, will be taking place later this summer. The pavement on Carey Street, near the intersection with High Street, will include excavating failed pavement and replacing with concrete. This will require a temporary street closure. More information will be provided when the work is scheduled. This project is being funded through federal funds, the city’s share of state fuel taxes and vehicles fees, and the city’s revenue and street funds.
